Biography

Guy has been serving the people of Howard County in elected office for more than two decades. First elected to the County Council in 1998, Guy has since advanced the causes of our community in the House of Delegates, and does so now in leadership in the Senate of Maryland. He currently serves as the Senate Budget and Taxation Chairman, ensuring a seat at the table for all of his constituents at the highest level of legislative decision making. Guy has been a steady leader in the face of a public health pandemic.

Since entering public office, Guy has been a tireless advocate for education. While on the County Council, he fought for renovations and additions to 31 schools, supported the construction of 8 new schools, and funded smaller class sizes in the early grades. Since entering state government, he has fought for funding to keep our education system #1 in the state, including funding for Howard Community College and for the University System of Maryland.

As a former State Director of the Sierra Club, and former board member of the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Guy brings his experience to his role in the budget process on the Budget and Taxation Committee, and to the Chesapeake Bay Commission as one of its members.

Guy has always worked to create the change he wants to see in the world. In high school, while earning his Eagle Scout award, he organized his troop to clean a vacant lot and build a playground for area children. After moving to Columbia, he became Chairman of the Kings Contrivance village board and started a neighborhood beautification program. Even now, he helps provide rides for senior citizens as a volunteer driver for NeighborRide.

As our Senator, Guy has worked for us. He has secured funding for projects, and championed policies that support all of our community. Above all, has never forgotten his true calling: service.
